Video - Warsaw's Spirit: Battle in the Royal Forests
Deep in Poland's Royal Forests, September 1st, 1939, the earth trembles with the German Third Army's advance. Their goal: Warsaw. Their obstacle: Poland's indomitable spirit. At Mława, concrete fortifications become flesh and blood as the Polish 20th Infantry halts Panzer Division Kempf in its tracks. Nature itself allies with the defenders, as swamps ensnare the Wodrig Corps. Along the Ulatkowka River, a different drama unfolds. The 11th Cavalry "Legions" Regiment dismounts, transforming from dashing horsemen to steadfast infantry. They face the German 1st Cavalry Brigade in a clash that defies romantic notions of warfare. Against all odds, Poland's defenders achieve the impossible. The mighty German war machine, poised to strike at Warsaw's heart, finds itself unexpectedly stalled in the shadowy depths of Lasy Królewskie.
