Video - The Wise Farmer's Tale: Maybe Luck, Maybe Not
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a farmer. He was not rich, but he was content with what he had. One day, his horse ran away. His neighbors came to express their concern. "What bad luck!" they exclaimed sympathetically. The farmer simply replied, "Maybe." A few days later, his horse returned, leading a herd of wild horses with it. His neighbors came again, this time to congratulate him. "What good luck!" they exclaimed excitedly. The farmer simply replied, "Maybe." One of the wild horses kicked the farmer's son, breaking his leg. The neighbors once again came to offer their sympathy. "What terrible luck!" they exclaimed. The farmer simply replied, "Maybe." A week later, the army came to the village to recruit all able-bodied young men for war. They passed over the farmer's son because of his broken leg. The neighbors came yet again, expressing their relief. "What wonderful luck!" they exclaimed. The farmer simply replied, "Maybe."
