Video - The Unseen Adhan: Draç Castle's Surrender
While the raiders were waiting, a loud voice was heard from the Öğürdürce church inside the castle. Although the soldiers did not understand what was happening, they immediately turned their faces towards it and paid attention. No no... The words of this melodious voice were not Italian. But it was not difficult for them to understand the issue: Someone they had not seen yet was calling the adhan. The soldiers grabbed the hilts of their swords and quickly rushed there. The call to prayer was coming from the cypress tree in front of the church, and undoubtedly there was a Muslim hiding there. But where?.. Although the soldiers walked around the tree, pruned the dense branches with their swords, and examined every side of it up to its top, they could not find anyone. And in the end they came back with the verdict "inhumane". They returned, but their already low morale seemed to have dropped to zero. Because of course they could not interpret this call to prayer coming from an invisible source as a divine sign in their favor. It seemed that they would not be able to hold the castle. As a matter of fact, they were not wrong in their predictions. Draç Castle, which could not withstand the attacks of the Ottoman raiders, surrendered on 13 August 1502.
