The Parable of the Lost Sheep: In Luke 15:1-7, Jesus tells a story to the Pharisees and teachers of the law who were muttering about Him welcoming sinners. He said, "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." Jesus uses this simple yet profound parable to illustrate God's immense love and care for every individual. The Pharisees and religious leaders often emphasized strict adherence to the law and distanced themselves from those they deemed sinners. But Jesus challenges this mindset by showing that God actively seeks out those who are lost and rejoices greatly when they are found. This parable is a powerful reminder that no one is beyond God's reach. His love is boundless and His mercy, endless. It encourages us to show the same compassion and dedication in seeking out and caring for those who may feel lost or abandoned. In the end, it’s not about the number of rules we follow, but about the depth of our love and the joy we bring to others, just as God rejoices over every lost soul that is found.
