Kılıç (Uluç) Ali Pasha, one of the great sailors who grew up in the 16th century, the most powerful period of the Ottoman Empire, was an uncompromising follower of the Christian state pirates while flying the Ottoman flag in the Mediterranean. Its name was mentioned in European sources as "Occhiali". He is one of the commanders who served the Ottoman Empire during the times of Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim the Second and Murad the Third and contributed to the glorious Turkish victories. He gave importance to the construction of large warships during his 16-year tenure as admiral. In 1586, he had a bath built for the sultan in the New Palace and two mosques on the shores of the Bosphorus. His wife, Selime Hâtun, also had a mosque built in Fındıklı (a district between Salıpazarı and Kabataş). Both of them met the needs of the needy and gave regular pensions to thousands of people.
