Video - The Pasha's Dream: How a Bowl of Yogurt Built a Mosque
A bowl of yogurt During the Ottoman Empire, it was the ideal for every pasha and sultan to establish charity institutions for everyone in their country, leading to the establishment of mosques, complexes, or hospitals in conquered areas. Suleiman the Magnificent built Suleymaniye Mosque to ensure that everyone could be in touch with their Lord, regardless of their location or education. However, he wanted the work to be recorded only in his notebook and not accepted help from anyone. A grandmother, who lived alone with her cows and lived off their milk, watched the mosque sadly. She asked the masters for permission to build a mosque for her, but they refused. She offered a bowl of yogurt to the masters, and they ate it, outweighing the mosque. In his dream, Suleiman the Magnificent saw his work being weighed on a balance scale, with the mosque on one side and a bowl of yogurt on the other. The masters, who did not have permission, were unable to resist the grandmother's insistence and bought the yogurt. In this story, the sultan's dream is told by Kanuni, who recounts the story of the grandmother's insistence on a bowl of yogurt, which ultimately led to the construction of Suleymaniye Mosque.
