Video - The Lunar Legend: Chandra's Waning and Waxing
The story of moon: In Indian mythology, there are various stories and beliefs surrounding the moon. Moon is known as Chandra in Hindu mythology. According to Hindu mythology, Chandra was cursed by Daksha, a powerful god, which caused Chandra to wane. In this story, Chandra, the Moon God, was married to the 27 daughters of Daksha, known as the 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions). However, Chandra favored one wife, Rohini, over the others, which angered Daksha. As a result, Daksha cursed Chandra to gradually fade and lose his brightness. Chandra, feeling the effects of the curse, sought help from Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva intervened and partially lifted the curse, allowing Chandra to wax and wane in a cycle. This is why the moon waxes and wanes in the night sky, symbolizing the phases of life and the cyclical nature of time.
