Caterpillars also have 12 eyes, including 6 simple eyes and 6 tiny eye spots. Some caterpillars can even shoot out a smelly liquid to defend themselves from predators. Caterpillars have a HUGE appetite! They eat and eat to grow big and strong. They shed their skin multiple times as they grow, eventually transforming into a beautiful butterfly or moth.
