Americans at home supported the war effort through rationing, buying war bonds, and working in war industries.. On November 11, 1918, the Armistice was signed, bringing an end to the fighting. Over 116,000 Americans had given their lives. The Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war, but the impact on veterans and the world was lasting. World War I reshaped America and the world.
