Video - The Good Samaritan: A Lesson in Compassion
One day, a man, a teacher of the Law, asked Jesus what he needed to do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He replied that he should follow the words of the Bible: worship God above all and love your neighbor as yourself. The man then asked, "Who's next?" Jesus responded with the help of a good story: the parable of the Good Samaritan. Once upon a time there was a Jewish man who walked from Jerusalem to Jericho, a difficult journey that took two whole days. He continued happily, but was attacked by a group of bandits who robbed and beat him, leaving his body on the road close to death. A priest and a Levite (religious) passed by the injured man, but continued on their way, ignoring his suffering. It was then that a Samaritan passed by, from a people, Samaria, who were rivals of the Jews at that time. Worried about his body full of blood, he stopped to help the other. He first cleaned his wounds and then placed the stranger on top of his donkey. He then took the man to an inn and asked them to look after him, paying his expenses in advance, saying he would reimburse any extra expenses when he returned. When Jesus finished the story, he asked: "So, after all, which of the 3 was that man's neighbor?" To which the man replied, "He who had compassion on man." Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same!”
