Did you know that in the 16th century, there was a bizarre event known as "Erra uma vez dos cães" (Once upon a time of the dogs) in Portugal? Legend has it that a group of dogs held a trial to determine the guilt of a man accused of mistreating them. The dogs acted as judge and jury, and the man was found guilty and sentenced to be publicly humiliated. The man was paraded through the streets on a donkey while the dogs barked and howled at him. This strange event became a cautionary tale about treating animals with kindness and respect.
