They often belittled those who came to see Vishnu. One day, the four Kumaras, who were great sages, arrived at Vaikuntha to meet Vishnu. However, Jaya and Vijaya refused them entry, claiming that Vishnu was resting and could not be disturbed. This act enraged the Kumaras, who cursed Jaya and Vijaya to be reborn as mortals and to be killed by Vishnu's avatars. The curse manifested in several lifetimes: 1. In the Satya Yuga, Jaya and Vijaya were reborn as Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu, both powerful demons. Hiranyaksha was killed by Vishnu in his Varaha (boar) avatar, while Hiranyakashipu was slain by the Narasimha (man-lion) avatar. 2. In the Treta Yuga, they were reborn as Ravana and Kumbhakarna, the mighty demon brothers who terrorized the world. They were killed by Lord Rama, an avatar of Vishnu. 3. In the Dvapara Yuga, they took birth as Shishupala and Dantavakra, both of whom were eventually killed by Krishna, another avatar of Vishnu. Through these lifetimes, the curse was fulfilled as Jaya and Vijaya encountered and were defeated by Vishnu in various forms.
