Video - The Conquest of Trebizond
David Komnen, who ascended to the throne of the Greek Empire of Trebizond in 1458, not only cut off the taxes he had given to the Ottomans, but also requested back those given previously through the Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan Bey. Hasan Bey, who viewed the Greek State of Trebizond as his own tributary, did not want this state to fall under Ottoman influence. For this reason, he sent a delegation under the chairmanship of his nephew Murad Bey to Istanbul in 1460 to discuss this tax issue. However, Ottoman Ruler Mehmed the Conqueror sent them back with the following answer: "Come on, you go, I will come and pay my debt myself." After that, he started preparations for the campaign and defeated the Akkoyunlu Ruler Uzun Hasan in the battle of Otlukbeli, and then marched on Trabzon and annexed this state to the Ottoman lands.
