Video - Saving the Judges: Nedim's Solution
Grand Vizier Ali Pasha was astonished and could not find a way to save it. It turned out that the sultan had a servant; He called him to him and said, "Look, if you save these judges, you will prevent a fitna." Nedim quickly approached the sultan and said, "Oh Khan, send me as an ambassador to Byzantium." "What are you doing there?" the Hünkar asked. He said, "Let me come and ask for priests from the takfur." Bâyezid Khan asked, "You are stateless, what will you do with the priests?" Nedim said, "Let's break up the kadis and make the priests kadı." Bayezid Khan said, "I should give the position of judge to my servants until I give it to the priests." Nedim said, "Your servants are not educated, they are ignorant." These priests have studied and acquired knowledge for many years. He said, "If you get angry at the judges and abolish the provisions of the Quran, the Bible is also true, at least these priests should reject the provisions of the Bible." These words of his servant had an impact on the sultan and he asked, "What about the situation? How can we do it?" Nedim said, "I am not a kethüda. He replied, "The pashas know him." The Hunkar quickly summoned Ali Pasha and had him brought. "Ali, these kadis are educated, why do they not keep what they study and take bribes?" he asked. Ali Pasha said, "My Sultan, their wages (salaries) are low." The Hunkar released them and assigned them a painting fee, and today's judges receive twenty thousand silver coins for paintings. This is Ali Pasha's patronage.
