The janissaries and lieutenants in the Black Sea Bosphorus redoubts were secretly incited against the modern and trained new soldiers. With the suggestions of Grand Governor Köse Musa, the lieutenants tore Haseki Halil Ağa to pieces. With this movement, the rebellion was started. The rebels gathered in Büyükdere Meadow and elected Kastamonulu Kabakçı Mustafa as their leader. The rebellion expanded. About five hundred rebels marched to Istanbul. While one battalion of regular soldiers in the Levend Farm was enough to stop the rebels, Köse Musa stopped the operation of the Nizâm-ı Cedid soldiers. Sultan Selim III did not want Muslim blood to be shed. Sultan Selim III Khan; "The reason for these things is my hilm (being soft-tempered)!" Upon this, Köse Musa stated that he would calm down the rebels and issued the decree regarding the removal of the Nizâm-ı Cedid soldiers. Immediately after the decision, Köse Musa took action. The rebels who came to Çardak and Unkapanı Pier united with the Janissaries and massacred the statesmen who were supporters of Nizâm-ı Cedid. Later, the rebels, shouting that they do not want the Sultan, dethroned Sultan Selim III Khan on May 29, 1807, and replaced him with Sultan Mustafa IV Khan. All progress was stopped. Kabakçı Mustafa was appointed to the Bosphorus with the title of Turnacıbaşı. He became influential in government affairs. But this lasted a very short time. He was murdered in his house on the Bosphorus in July 1808.
