These shoes had a miniature live pigeon attached to them, pecking at the ground as the wearer walked. It was seen as a symbol of wealth and status, but it must have been quite the challenge to keep the pigeon fed and happy while walking around town! Imagine the sight of people strutting around with live birds on their shoes. Fashion really was for the birds back then!
