Did you know that in 16th-century France, people believed that touching the hanged bodies of criminals could cure ailments? Talk about a risky remedy! And in medieval England, there was an actual job called the "Gong Farmer." Sounds fancy, right? Well, their task was to dig out and dispose of human waste from cesspits. What a crappy job! Meanwhile, in the 17th century, Europeans thought tomatoes were poisonous and called them "poison apples." Ironically, they were terrified of the fruit we now love in pasta sauce. Crazy, huh?
