Did you know that the Vikings discovered America before Columbus? Yep, that's right! Around the year 1000, Leif Erikson, a Norse explorer, set sail from Greenland and landed in what is now Newfoundland, Canada. They called it Vinland because of the wild grapes they found there. Imagine telling Columbus, "Hey buddy, you're about 500 years late to the party!" We were only able to confirm those old norse legends about their discovery of America in 1960 when the remains of a settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows was discovered. These seafaring warriors built timber-and-sod buildings and even had a blacksmith shop. Imagine being there with your buddies chilling by the fire, swapping tales of sea monsters and epic battles!
