Ten-year-old Ethan wasn't scared of much. Not spiders, not thunderstorms, not even the creaky floorboards in his grandma's old house. Those creaks were like familiar groans from a grumpy friend. But tonight, the creaks were different. They started subtly, a low moan beneath Ethan's bed as he settled in. Then, a long, drawn-out whine that seemed to travel across the room.
