Did you know that back in medieval times, people believed in something called the Trial by Ordeal? Here’s how it worked: if you were accused of a crime, you'd have to go through a literal trial by fire or water to prove your innocence. For the fire trial, you'd walk across hot coals or carry a red-hot iron bar. If your wounds healed cleanly, you were innocent! For the water trial, you'd be thrown into a river with your hands and feet tied. If you sank, you were considered innocent (though, well, you drowned). If you floated, guilty! Crazy, right?
