The Story of Jesus Jesus of Nazareth, also known as Jesus Christ, is the central figure of Christianity. He was born in Bethlehem, likely around 4-6 BCE, to Mary and Joseph. Christians believe his birth was a miraculous virgin birth, announced by an angel. Jesus grew up in Nazareth and began his public ministry around the age of 30. He traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching about love, forgiveness, and the Kingdom of God. His teachings often challenged the religious authorities of the time. He performed numerous miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, and turning water into wine. These acts, along with his profound teachings, attracted a large following. Jesus' message and growing influence concerned the religious leaders, leading to his arrest. He was betrayed by one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, and handed over to the Roman authorities. Jesus was tried and sentenced to crucifixion, a common Roman method of execution. He was crucified on a Friday, now commemorated as Good Friday, and buried in a tomb. According to Christian belief, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, an event celebrated as Easter. This resurrection is considered the cornerstone of Christian faith, symbolizing victory over sin and death. After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples and many others over a period of 40 days before ascending to heaven. His life and teachings laid the foundation for Christianity, and his followers spread his message throughout the world, forming the early Christian Church.
