The note read, "If you see this, run away." Detective Harper found it in the hand of a lifeless man sprawled in an alley. Harper's sharp eyes caught a faint perfume lingering, leading her to the nearby café. She questioned Ava, the barista, who trembled but denied knowing anything. Clue after clue pointed to a jealous lover, but Harper wasn't convinced. Two suspects emerged: Ava, and Victor, the victim's business partner. Victor had opportunity but lacked motive. Harper noticed Ava's shaky hands and a hidden bruise. The victim had abused her; she snapped. "Ava," Harper said gently, "it was self-defense."
