Video - Heroic Sacrifice: The Story of Hadım Sinan Pasha
Hadım Sinan Pasha was sent to Diyarbekir as the serasker of the army preparing for the Egyptian Expedition. He later joined Sultan Selim's forces in the Elbistan Plain. He showed great heroism in winning the Mercidabık War (1516). When Tomanbay, who ascended to the Egyptian-Mamluk throne instead of Kansu Gavri, continued to struggle, Selim Khan sent him to Gaza with a force of four thousand people. Sinan Pasha conquered Gaza in a short time. Later, in the Battle of Ridaniye, Yavuz Sultan Selim went around El-Mukattam Mountain and fell behind the Egyptian armies, leaving Sinan Pasha at the head of the Ottoman central forces in his place. Realizing that he was about to lose the war with violent attacks, Tomanbay attacked the imperial tent to kill Selim Khan with all his forces. Yavuz Sultan Selim was at the head of the forces that surrounded the enemy from behind. The Mamluks mistook Sinan Pasha, the head of the central forces, for the sultan and attacked this line with all their forces. Sinan Pasha was martyred as a result of these hand-to-hand battles. After the war was won, Yavuz Sultan Selim was very saddened by the death of this valuable vizier, who was brave, daring, brave and at the same time successful, and said, "I have ascended to the throne of Yusuf (peace be upon him), but from my loyal and brave serdar like Sinan." I left!" He expressed his sorrow with his words.
