Did you know that fear of the know and unknown has been a part of human history for centuries? As humans have different levels of intolerance uncertainty, those individuals with hight levels might find unknown or uncertain situations almost unbearable. In ancient times, people believed that eclipses were caused by dragons eating the sun or moon. Talk about a dark dinner date! In medieval Europe, folks thought that comets were harbingers of doom, predicting wars and disasters. Even Christopher Columbus faced crew mutiny because his sailors were terrified of sailing off the edge of the world (they thought the earth were flat). And let’s not forget the famous witch trials, where fear of the unknown led to some very fiery conclusions. People have fear of not being able to make it to the bathroom, slide thru a tunnel, drive behind a truck loaded with wood, spiders, snakes, Australia, leave the passport behind in a trip abroad… Extreme fear or trauma can cause you nightmares, can make you sick, can rise up your anxiety and leave you paralyses.
