Did you know that in the 18th century, cats were put on trial for witchcraft? That's right! Cats, especially black ones, were believed to be the devil’s little helpers. In fact, Pope Gregory IX declared them to be satanic in 1233, leading to mass cat exterminations across Europe. Ironically, this led to a surge in the rat population, worsening the spread of the Black Plague.
