Did you know that in ancient Rome, people believed that wearing amulets made from crocodile dung would protect them from evil spirits? Some gladiators also believed that rubbing ashes of a fallen gladiator on their wounds would heal them faster. And speaking of protection, during the Black Death, beak-like masks filled with herbs were worn by doctors to protect them from disease. These bizarre historical protection practices may seem odd to us now, but they were taken very seriously back then.
