Did you know that the United States once had a president who kept a pet alligator in the White House? John Quincy Adams received the alligator as a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette. In the late 1800s, the city of Portland, Oregon, was known as "The Forbidden City" due to its strict laws against alcohol, tobacco, and swearing. The Great Molasses Flood of 1919 in Boston killed 21 people and injured 150 when a massive tank of molasses exploded. And in 1962, the U.S. Air Force accidentally dropped two nuclear bombs on North Carolina, thankfully without detonation. Crazy, right?
