Did you know that Albania was the first atheist state in the world? In 1967, under the rule of Enver Hoxha, Albania declared itself completely atheist, banning all forms of religious worship. Churches, mosques, and other religious institutions were either demolished or repurposed into secular buildings. People were forbidden from practicing their faith openly, and religious holidays were replaced with state-sponsored events. The regime even outlawed religious names, forcing people to change their names to something more "socialist." Imagine Christmas without Santa, just state speeches!
