Did you know that the shortest war in history lasted only 38 minutes? On August 27, 1896, Britain and Zanzibar squared off in what can only be described as a very brief spat. When the Sultan of Zanzibar refused to step down, the British decided to “gently” persuade him with a naval bombardment. Spoiler alert: the Sultan’s palace didn’t stand a chance. In less time than it takes to watch an episode of your favorite show, the war was over, and the Sultan had fled.
