Mehran Karimi Nasseri, an Iranian refugee, spent 18 years living at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Upon arriving at the French airport, he could not prove his identity or refugee status, leading to his detention in the waiting area for travelers without proper documentation. From August 26, 1988, to July 2006, Nasseri lived, studied, slept, and interacted with airport staff. His unusual story inspired several films, most notably "The Terminal," starring Tom Hanks. In September 2022, Nasseri returned to the airport because he missed living there. He passed away from a heart attack at the airport in November 2022.
