Rain lashed against Lucan’s face as he clawed his way through the collapsing tunnel. Heart drumming, he scanned the shadows for any sign of Lars. A flash of lightning revealed a boot sticking out from a pile of rubble. Lucan hurled himself forward, digging and shouting Lars' name. “Stop... you're making it worse,” a weak voice crackled from below. Lars' face appeared, pale but relieved. “Hold on, buddy,” Lucan panted, wrenching debris away. “We’re getting out.” The ground rumbled, as if warning them both. The storm outside had triggered the ancient trap, causing the underground crypt to cave in. “Lucan, you have to go. The artifact is more important than me,” Lars whispered, sincerity in his eyes. “Shut up,” Lucan grunted. “Not leaving without you.” Minutes felt like hours, but Lucan finally freed Lars. Supporting his broken friend, they stumbled towards the exit. The gloom of the dig site seemed endless until a pinprick of daylight appeared ahead.
