While this achievement is worth celebrating, it is crucial to ask ourselves: what are we truly celebrating? What gains have we made, and where are we headed? Unfortunately, the speeches delivered by our leaders on this occasion failed to provide meaningful answers to these questions. Instead, they demonstrated a disconnect between the political class and the people. The vague statements made did not align with the reality on the ground, highlighting the need for sincerity and truthfulness in our approach. Over the years, our national values have eroded, leading to weakened institutions, corruption, bad leadership, economic decline, and technological backwardness. To escape this quagmire, we must re-align and redefine our moral compass. The erosion of our societal culture and values has permeated our democratic culture, leading to a distorted perception of right and wrong. To move forward, we need a moral re-armament and regeneration. We must change our mindset and approach to nation-building.
